Sunday Bloody Funday: A Menstruation Celebration

Join us and our besties at Go With the Flow for this very special Sunday Bloody Funday in honor of Menstrual Hygiene Day

Learn Something:
Poor menstrual hygiene caused by a lack of education on the issue, persisting taboos and stigma, limited access to hygienic menstrual products and poor sanitation infrastructure undermines the educational opportunities, health and overall social status of women and girls around the world. As a result, millions of women and girls are kept from reaching their full potential. In fact, 1 in 5 Arizona girls will miss school because of a lack of access to tampons + pads.

Write Something: For many students in our community, after their parents pay rent and utilities and buy groceries, there is nothing to spare for menstrual products. Girls feel guilty asking, so they ration the pads and tampons they do get, not changing them as often as they should, or wad up toilet paper or paper towels in their underwear. They worry about soiling their clothes, which makes it hard to pay attention in class. Some stay home those days rather than risk it. We think that's total bullshit, so we will be putting pen to paper and writing to our governor and the Arizona Department of Education to urge them to add funding to their budgets to cover these essential supplies for all girls.

Do Something:
During this BC meeting we will be assembling 'period packs' filled with feminine products for low-income and homeless girls with Go With The Flow.
Go With The Flow is an initiative that provides menstrual hygiene products to students in the Phoenix and Tucson metropolitan areas via free "period packs". The packs contain tampons and sanitary napkins, as well as a resource card for Spot On, an application which helps its users keep track of their periods. The Go With The Flow initiative has provided period packs to schools in the Phoenix Union, Tucson Unified, Buckeye Union, and Glendale Union High School Districts. When students in these districts are in need, they are able to approach various school staff to discreetly obtain a supply of hygiene products. On a monthly basis schools, as needed, will be able to contact Go With The Flow to replenish the period packs, helping to ensure a continuous supply of menstrual hygiene products for their students at no cost to the school.

In an effort to support as many babes as we can, we kindly ask that you bring a donation of tampons, pads, or new, small zippered pouches. For more info about donations, check this out: https://www.facebook.com/GoWiththeFlowAZ/

*Your dues for this event include: Babe Council Merit Button, education materials, letter writing & activity supplies.

Babe Council Meeting FAQ:

Who is Babe Council for?

Some people call it "being a good citizen. We prefer "Babe".
Whether you're a republican, democrat, independent, or queen, we believe all women benefit from knowing about and how to address the issues facing their community. So, we created BC for any femme-identifying individual who's wanted to do more but wasn't sure how, or who might be short on time, money, energy or all-of-the-above, and because of that has never had a way to do good stuff for others, become more civically engaged, be more informed, involved, etc. We're also a dope girl gang who love cocktails and couldn't care more... so if you're into that kind of thing, we're for you too

Can I come alone? Is that weird?
Shy? Awkward? Introvert? Don't be scared, everyone will love you! We are committed to making sure that every babe has a seat at the table. Plus, we get it. Doing anything for the first time can be a little scary/weird... that's why we have cocktails!

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
We'd love to hear from you, babe! Shoot us an email at: heybabe@babecouncil.com

I can't attend the event, how else can I participate?
Babe Council now offers meetings to-go! Pay your dues plus shipping and we will mail all your event education, letter-writing and activity supplies, and merit button for your good deed. Just select the "to-go" ticket option at checkout.

Let's Talk About Sex

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month

So we’ve teamed up with The Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence to bring you this afternoon of activism and altruism.

Learn Something:
We’re chatting all things “consent” with a workshop round-table led by the babes of ACESDV

Write Something:
41% of women and 20% of men in AZ will experience sexual violence. And yet, Arizona happens to be one of the few states in the nation without any sexual violence funding. Like zero. Literally not a single dollar. And we think that’s bullshit, so we’re popping off to our electeds.

Do Something:
In addition to collecting donations, we will also craft and write notes of thank you for the volunteers of ACESDV, showing them some love and gratitude for all of the amazing work they do for our community.

*Your dues for this event include: Babe Council Merit Button, education materials, letter writing & activity supplies.

The Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence was formed in 1980 so that concerned citizens and professionals could unite in a statewide organization to end domestic violence. In 2013, the coalition became the designated dual coalition to address both sexual and domestic violence thus becoming the Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence.

Babes In Toyland

Last year the babes bankrolled x-mas for a super-special 7th & 8th grade class in central Phoenix, this year the babes are adopting an entire f'ing school to ensure that every kiddo has a gift to open this holiday!

The first public single-gender charter high school in our state, Girls Leadership Academy of Arizona (GLAAZ) empowers young women to succeed as leaders in their classrooms, in their communities, and in their own lives. According to the National Coalition of Girls Schools (NCGS), there are many benefits to single gender education, including high academic achievement, improved self-confidence, and increased college enrollment. Until GLAAZ opened its doors in 2010, the only single gender educational options in Arizona have been private or parochial, which can often be cost-prohibitive for families. GLAAZ is an NCA/AdvancEd accredited public charter high school - the only FREE single gender high school in Arizona.

The faculty and staff are committed to empowering these young women to be enthusiastic and influential contributors to their world. Let's thank them and make sure the girls know how special, important, and loved they are with a Feministmas shindig and a bounty of gifts and treats!

Whether you're ballin' or on a budget, any donation would be totally generous of you, babe!

Breathe, Babe

“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” -Audre Lorde, activist and poet

Breathe, Babe

We've marched, we've rallied, we've written, we've worked. As good as it feels to flex our civic-muscles, the truth is, becoming more socially and politically engaged can burn a babe out. This is especially true for those, like women of color and trans babes, for whom simply existing in the world is a daily struggle. When you add in the craziness of everyday life and a non-stop social media feed, there's no question radical self-care should be at the top of all of our to-do list.

Give yourself permission to pause and let Babe Council + One Breath Studio help you channel your chill.
No politics. No Stress.
In this 90-minute mindfulness experience you will be guided through a 45-minute soul reviving meditation led by Sheila Shervey, meditation teacher, holistic psychotherapist, and founder of One Breath. Followed by a 30 minute Self-Care Club Wokeshop, where you'll channel that inner calmness and mental clarity into some good deeds for YOU.

Yas Self-Care Queen!

This 90-minute experience includes:  45-minute guided meditation, Reserved seating, “Breathe, Babe” Merit Button, and a Self-Care Club kit to help you bring the experience home, literally and figuratively.

$20 per ticket // seating is limited for this special event // Purchase Tickets at onebreathstudio.com

All levels welcomed, no experience required. Whether you’re a first-timer curious about meditation, or a seasoned meditator wanting to grow your practice - no matter your previous experience - you’re welcomed to join us! Most people find mediating in a supported group and with an experienced teacher to be so much easier than doing it at home. Come experience the awesome benefits with us.

One Breath Studio is a women's meditation and wellness studio for women to awaken and experience their natural ability to heal and restore balance. onebreathstudio.com
