Climate change = totally not hot.
Join the the squad and get aproned-up to mark the start of fire season in AZ. Did you know that the 2017 fire season claimed more than 400,000 acres of Arizona by August alone? It was the largest area burned since 2011. Rising temps are the clearest single signal likely to influence fire regimes, and girl, it's getting hot in hurrr. But instead of taking off all our clothes (Nelly), we'll be taking over commercial kitchen space to bake and package treats for our hardworking firefighters. That's hot.
And increased temps don't just affect fires... As we continue to experience more and more days of extreme heat, it's super important for the community to collaborate in its efforts to provide water and heat refuge for those who need it. So, we will also be collecting donations of snacks, sun protection aids like hats, sunscreen, sunglasses, light-weight clothing, and bottled water, with the goal of preventing heat related and heat caused deaths among people experiencing homelessness and other vulnerable populations.
Speaking of water... AZ is running out of it. With less than 8 inches of rainfall each year; the US government calculated that two thirds of Arizona is currently facing severe to extreme drought and experts say we will be completely out of water by 2050. Not hot. In order to do our part to help address the water crisis in our community we'll get the 411 on all the deets and actions we can take.
